Gavin Wood, The Founder of Polkadot, has just announced a new innovation going into the launch of Polkadot 2.0.
The innovation is called JAM Chain, a new paradigm that will be the base of Polkadot 2.0 to make it more advanced and interoperable with other blockchains.
Although there might not be much detail yet, the announcement has sparked joy in the Polkadot Community, giving hints that the adoption rate of the blockchain will increase significantly.
Gavin Wood Announces JAM Chain
The information was spread at the latest Polkadot Developer Conference which happened on March 12th to March 13th, 2024.
During the conference, Gavin Wood was speaking to give the community an update on how the Polkadot 2.0 is coming along.
In his session, he announced a new innovation called the JAM Chain which will be the new paradigm for Polkadot 2.0.
The session itself was then summarised by the founder of Chaos DAO through a Twitter Thread that is shown above.
People in the Polkadot Community have been excited after hearing the announcement as there are a couple of things that might change because of the JAM Chain.
First of all, The JAM Chain itself is planned to be the base structure that will support the Polkadot 2.0 ecosystem.
It is still unclear on whether the Relay Chain will be substituted by this JAM Chain, but from Gavin Wood’s explanation, The JAM Chain will act similar like The Relay Chain but more advanced.
The JAM Chain will not only be able to be the base structure of Polkadot but also other blockchains, EVM and non EVM.
Parachains will be managed and governed through The JAM Chain, as the chain itself allows Polkadot to not only provide Parachain to its developers but other services as well, including ZK Rollups, Regular Smart Contracts, and more.
The JAM Chain will also make Polkadot more interoperable as it will ease the communication between Polkadot and other blockchains because it is compatible with more than just EVM Blockchains.
Also, with The JAM Chain, inter-blockchain communications will only be done in one transaction, giving efficiency towards users who want to incorporate Polkadot with other blockchains in their everyday transactions.
Not Much Clear Information Yet
For developers, Polkadot 2.0 will also bring PolkaVM which is a virtual machine on the new Polkadot 2.0 that will provide transaction-less execution, requiring less fees when building on Polkadot.
Other benefits from Polkadot 2.0 include protection for validators from Denial of Service Attacks and overall more efficiency for its users.
Currently there are no publications or clear writer report yet on Polkadot 2.0 and The JAM Chain itself, as it has just been announced a couple of days back.
Regarding Polkadot 2.0’s launch date, it is also still unclear on when it is going to happen, but speculations from the previous statement of Gavin Wood suggest that the Polkadot 2.0 will be launched in early 2024, which can range in the first half of 2024.
There are also some uncertainties regarding the launch of JAM Chain and Polkadot 2.0, some of the questions are the existence of Relay Chain and the Polkadot Parachain Auction.
With the existence of JAM Chain, will Relay Chain still exist, and with the ease of interoperability and more efficiency in the services provided by the JAM Chain, will there still be a need for Parachain Auction to happen?
Every question is still unanswered, which might be done on purpose by the Polkadot Team to build hype and curiosity to make people wait for the launch.
Overall there are only two sure things which are that Polkadot 2.0 will be backward compatible and fully support the original Polkadot Ecosystem and will be launched all at once and not in phases which will potentially create FOMO for DOT.
